“Alto” is one of those drawings that came out of a slow moment — I was lounging on the couch, just letting the pen move without thinking too hard. The saxophone has so much character on its own, and sketching it in this loose, chaotic way made it feel almost alive.
It’s all ink — nothing rigid, nothing measured — just the flow of the moment. The messy linework, the scribbled background, and the bold shadows give it that same movement and rhythm you’d hear in a real alto sax solo.
Most of the work in my shop is made during ordinary pockets of time throughout my day, and this piece is exactly that. A quiet moment turned into something expressive and full of energy.
